Award Winning Sound and Speech Clarity

First Thoughts

I'm a big fan of mess lining headphones.  Not only are the headphones easy to store and more durable it reduces the weight of the headphones.  This is a big deal for someone who moves around a lot while listening the earphones.  Rubber sealed cables tend to naturally want to bounce out of the ears.  It seems you have to jam the earphones into your ears so they don't and then you end up having to deal with discomfort.  NOT WITH THE RHA MA350 earphones.  They feel great in the ears.  I don't have to jam them in and they stay in place.  Even when running.

What You Get

  • RHA MA350 Headphones
  • S/M/L size tip.  3 in all
  • Soft Carry case
  • Clip for the earphones.  Nice when running.

This is the first time I have had a chance to review RHA earphones.  The RHA MA350 is their lower end model and cheapest model earphones currently available.  If their is one thing I have learned when reviewing headphones is that if the lower end models are good, the higher end models tend to be awesome.  For the price of 39.99 USD you are getting a set of earphones that works well and very comfortable to wear.  Longest listening time for me to date is 4.5 hours on an audio book.  Clear sound the whole time and no ear pain after the long usage.

The earphones do claim to be noise isolation design but I would rate the noise isolation the same as most earphones that don't claim it.  The real noise isolation simply comes from the well fitting soft earphone tips.  When you are listening you are still going to hear background noises.  You won't be able to carry on an average conversation however unless the other person is speaking loud so they do reduce noise.

I ran on both a trail and a treadmill and did not have to adjust the earphones once.  I did take advantage of the clip that came along with the headphones to help secure the earphones wire to my shirt.

The ear buds themselves are very nice.  Soft and have a good feeling in the ears.  Un-like many earphones in this price range the eartips will not pop out easily.  I've had plenty of earphones I no longer use because the eartips popped off who knows where and ordering new ones just seems like a waste.  They can be hard to snap on at first but that is a good thing.  Once in place they should stay in place.

The mesh fabric cable is very nice.  you don't have to worry about harder wires getting oddly shaped because you put them in your pocket or have to deal wit the rubber ones that are heavy and constantly pop out.

How does the RHA MA350 Compare to Other Leading Brands?

With other earphones in this price range I can highly recommend these to anyone.  The 3 year warranty seals the deal for me.

Overall Design

The design on these is simple.  I like simple.  I'm not hear to attempt to make some fashion statement.  These are a simple design and discreet.

There is a 3 year warranty.

Award Winning Sound and Speech Clarity

First Thoughts

When I first pulled these earphones out of the box I thought they looked a little big and bulky and was concerned that there was no way they would stay in place when I went running with them on. The earphones came with 3 eartip sizes. In a lot of other brands you get 4 sizes. This was a little bit of a let down as the smallest size fit very well in my ears but when I loose the eartip (And I Will) the next size up was too big and would not work for me. I could also not find any replacements or price on the ableplanet website for the eartip's. I would imagine it's there but have not been able to locate them.

I first went running on a treadmill with these in a gym. Loud noises all around so I turned the volume up to a level I normally listen to in the gym. The speech from the audio book came in very very clear and crisp and I found I was able to turn the volume down a lot and still understand every word just fine. If you listen to earphones a lot or plan on it then you may really want to consider making a purchase of these as it could potentially help avoid hearing loss in the future as you can listen to songs and the like at a lower sound volume. The earphones stayed in place almost the entire time. Most so then the Skull Candy earphones I normally wear while running.

I have a small head and these headphones did seem to be sticking out further then most other earphones I use. I do count this as a negative.

While traveling in a vehicle and plane for a long time period the earphones suited me very well. Nice little carrying case, very easy to untangle un-like most other headphones, were very comfortable over a long period of time. The headphones grew on me the more I wore them. For an 80 dollar price tag I felt there was real value to the earphones.

How does the Editor Choice Onheadphones.comAblePlanet SI550A Compare to Other Leading Brands?

AblePlantet has another great product on it's hands. I am a fan Skull Candy 50/50 w/mic headphones and would rate the audio of the AblePlanet SI550A as higher quality. I could tell a difference and the difference to me was worth the 30 dollar separation in price.

Overall Design

For a cost of $80 you are getting what you pay for. Compared to a cheaper 30 or 40 dollar earphone the AblePlanet SI550A will beat it hands down. The in-line mic worked extremely well even in a location with some wind. Everyone I talked to said I came in loud and clear and they could not tell I was on a Mic at all. As mentioned the earphones themselves seem a little big to me. Still very comfortable to wear but you can't lay down on your side and listen to these. At least I could not.

The cord on these earphones seems durable and ones that could last me a while. With most headphones I wear out the cord in a matter of months. Next thing you know it breaks off or wires start poking out of the cord. For all those people like me who constantly end up with earphones in major not, the AblePlanet SI550A seem to not tangle nearly as much and when the do it takes only a second to untangle. Very good for those who will be just jamming the earphones into their pocket or the case.

There is a general limited lifetime warranty. Seems the standard warranty of any earphone on the market.

Noise Cancelling Headphones That Re-produce the live experience

  • High quality audio
  • Very clear highs and excellent bass
  • Comfortable over the ear headphones that can be worn for long sessions
  • High marks for noise cancelling.

  • No color options: At least at this time
  • I would prefer a small in line volume control
  • Would be nice to have the device auto turn off. I always forget to do it.

The AblePlanet NC1050 noise canceling headphones provide a very solid noise cancelling experience. The crisp and clear sound coming out of these babies will provide hours of enjoyment for years to come. We rate this product a Strong Buy and award it the Editor Choice Award for the month of May 2012. It scored a 5 Star mark.

Editor Choice Onheadphones.comAblePlanet NC1050 Noise Canceling Headphones Review

Noise canceling headphones- with Linx Audio

First Thoughts

It's been a while since I have personally tested out such a high quality noise cancelling headphone that was actually very comfortable. The first time I put them on was when my son had several friends over playing. I needed to jam out some paper work and could not work with all the running around. I placed the AblePlanet NC1050 over my ears and turned them on. It was truly amazing to go from a chaotic seen to being at a Dave Mathews Concert. The comfort level of these headphones I can not stress enough. I have sensitive ears and for me they felt better then any Boise I've worn.

How does the Noise Canceling Compare to Other Leading Brands?

AblePlantet has produced a very high quality noise cancelling device. I would put this product on par with the Bose QuitComfort series of headphones. I could not rate it above or below. To put it simply I fully enjoyed my listening experience and was able to drown out the out side world to a very satisfactory level. The headphones also work when not turned on, which can be a big plus for those who do not need the noise cancelling feature on.

Overall Design

For a cost of $349 I expect my headphones to be very durable and last me for years. The NC1050 seems to meet this criteria. They appear very well engendered and a few drops hear and there should not cause any major damage.

The right side of the headphones is where you will have the 2 AAA batteries. They are ease to change out with out any special tools needed. The bay door slides out and secures back in place with ease. Batteries are included with this device.

The on and off button are also located on the right side. Basic slide up for on and down to place back into the off feature. As mentioned before the NC1050 works in both on and off mode for music listening.

The cord connecting the headphones to the listing device is detachable and around 5 1/2 feet in length. I have always preferred detached cords as I tend to forget I'm wearing headphones and when I walk away I don't suffer any neck injury. Believe me, you will forget these are on your head and will make the same mistake. On the cord is a volume button. It's a smooth oval shaped volume cord. In my mind it could of been smaller and I prefer it so. It's a matter of opinion and if you have large hands (Mine are small) you may appreciate the size.

Overall Performance

The noise canceling works very well as already mentioned. I was able to drown out more of the background noise on the NC1050 then many other lower cost noise canceling headphones. The sound was also very clear. The highs, lows and bass were impressive and not distorted. On lesser quality noise canceling headphones you will notice distortion and muffles, not on the AblePlanet NC1050.

I have yet to use up the battery life on the device and have enjoyed several hours of use. I have not been able to determine the exact life of the battery and could not find documentation to support how long they will last.

I watch a war movie with these headphones on and got a big grin at the bass and sound quality levels from this device. It did add a lot to my listening experience.

There is a general limited lifetime warranty. If the product malfunctions with out the help of a power surge or the owner causing damage through improper use, they will replace or repair the device at their discretion. This is a very industry standard warranty. Nothing too special about it as just about everyone offers it. Still it's always nice to have one for free.

JBuds J4 Review

JLab JBuds J4JLab JBuds J4 earbuds are designed for maximum enjoyment and durability.

JLab JBuds J4 earbuds are durable, flexible, and have very decent audio output.

JLab JBuds J4 earbuds had nothing that could be considered "bad" for the price tag of 39.95

JLab JBuds J4 earbuds lived up to their promise of being durable and heavy duty. Although they weighed slightly more than most, this wasn't anything that we felt was detrimental to the product itself. JLab JBuds J4 earbuds are compatible with any device that has a standard 3.5mm audio jack. The earbuds fit snugly and comfortably.

JLab JBuds J4 Review

Durable and High-Quality… for any occasion.

JLab JBuds J4 earbuds are advertised as being a type of earbud that balances audio quality and durability, and more than pulls through on its offer. The earbuds come in a variety of colors. They also come with 7 custom molded earbud cushions, both single flange (XS, S, M, L) and double flange (XS/S, S/M, L/XL). Having the extra ear pieces can come in handy if you loose a set. They have not fallen off yet for me and seem to hold in place very well, better than many other brands. They are just a bit heavier in weight than most of their competitors, this also ensures that you'll be able to enjoy them for quite some time. The cables are also designed to be tangle-free and strengthened with Kevlar, along with the ability to reduce external noise at virtually any volume.

The packaging is very basic. No shiny box or frills. The Jbuds J4 come with a hard shell caring case. The case is rather big for the size of the earbuds but that can be a pro as it will be hard to loose yet it will not easily fit into a tight pants pocket.

The tangle free aspect of the cables is so nice. Most earphone cables quickly tangle, from our testing's we found the flexible cable on the J4 earphones very durable, flexible in design and hard to tangle when put directly into pocket. At the Gym on a tred mill I was able to run 1.5 miles with out the Jbuds J4 falling out once. A clip did come with the headphones and it did help to keep the cord in place while I was running.

For the price tag of $40 bucks this really is a great buy and a product I would acquire again. I should note that I did wash the headphones once in a washing machine. They survived and I can not tell any degradation from the event.

For $10 dollars more you can get the Jlab JBuds J4M that have a mic. We did not test this version out but it seems to be of the same design with a mic added in. That version is compatible with all iPods, iPhone 3G, 4G, HTC, Android, Blackberry, Kindle, iPad, laptops, and any device with a standard 3.5mm jack. Basically the same as the J4 but with a Mic

JLab JBuds J4 earbuds are priced at $39.95

SkullCandy Roc Nation Aviator Review

SkullCandy Roc Nation AviatorSkullCandy Roc Nation Aviator mixes style and quality for an unparalleled experience.

The Roc Nation Aviator headphones by SkullCandy come in four classy styles: Brown, Black, White and Silver. Once you put a pair of these on, you may not want to take them off. The audio output mixes nicely compared to most competitors, and like most SkullCandy products, it certainly delivers on bass.

The SkullCandy Roc Nation Aviator's construction is just above mediocre. They look and feel very nice but feel a little cheap.

While the SkullCandy Roc Nation Aviator headphones deliver a lot of sleek style and performance, they're definitely not made for heavy use. The in-line control is somewhat awkward and will probably not be a fan favorite. The delivered-as-promised sound, however, more than makes up for it.

SkullCandy Roc Nation Aviator Review

Where style and performance come together…

10 for 10 on packaging for this device. I felt I was opening some super high end product. In fact I can't bring myself to throw away the hard case that these headphones were packaged in. I really felt the experience opening these so I promise you they would make a fantastic gift for someone.

The SkullCandy Roc Nation Aviator Headphones are sleek, stylish and perform quite well when it comes to delivering quality audio output. While they are fairly lightweight, their construction also reflects this. Thus, the SkullCandy Roc Nation Aviator headphones should be well taken care of. The promised sound quality was more than delivered. The in-line sound control could have been better designed for easier use. While there are cheaper competitors on the market, these headphones are definitely worth an investment for those who enjoy great sound quality.

The headphones are very comfortable around the ears. You can listen to music for far longer on the Roc Nation Aviator headphones then most other brands and models. No noise reduction that I can notice so these are not really the right headphones for those who have loud noises around them. Smaller noises like fans going can be heard while the music is not playing but as soon as I turn on my Ipod I don't notice the outside sounds.

This over the ear headphone set was made for the Ipod/Iphone. You have an in-line Track Control, Volume Control and a Mic. Very nice for listening to on your Iphone.

If you are looking for a very sleek looking headphone set that will get noticed I strongly recommend the SkullCandy Roc Nation Aviator headphones. The brown ones shown in this review are the ones we tested out. You have a choice of several different designs and colors so you are sure to find on that meats your needs.

The SkullCandy Roc Nation Aviator has earned the Staff Recommended award.

SkullCandy 50/50 Review

SkullCandy 50/50 ReviewSkullCandy 50/50 is a combination earbud and microphone designed for the iPhone and iPod

The SkullCandy 50/50 headphones come in many colors, have in-line volume control for the iPod and iPhone, as well as a mic.

The SkullCandy 50/50 earbuds are are decent, the overall quality of the audio can leave a bit to be desired. Also, the earbuds may not be comfortable for every user. This is normal for any in-ear headphone set. This is not a noise canceling device.

Onheadphones.com rate the 50/50 Skull Candy product line a strong buy for Iphone and Ipod users who want in-line Track Control, Volume Control and a Mic.

SkullCandy 50/50 Review

Enjoy the low vibrations

SkullCandy knows how to sell a user not only on a product but on an experience. They put a ton of effort into the design and packaging of a product. The Skull Candy 50/50 earbuds come in several colors so you are sure to find a color that fits you.

Visit the Skull Candy 50/50 page.

The SkullCandy 50/50 earbuds come with a few different earpieces, which are designed for different ear shapes, some users may not find these to be comfortable. Myself I found that the small and mid range ear pieces fit well in my ears and after several hours of listening to music I experienced no discomfort. The SkullCandy 50/50 earbuds come in a variety of colors along with their own Nylon carrying case, which is an added bonus. The bass output was fairly decent, but the overall audio seemed a bit lacking. If you have an iPod or an iPhone, these will work well, as they are designed for the aforementioned products. Compared to other rivals, they are more expensive, but are of better quality.

The SkullCandy 50/50 earbuds are aesthetically pleasing, their design and construction are conducive to durability and mid wear and tear. The bass output on the earbuds is something that users who like heavy bass will definitely appreciate, but generally, the audio quality is a tad bit mediocre. That's not to say that the earbuds aren't more durable than cheaper competitors, but they could still be improved on. The price is a bit more than a similar generic brands but that is normal when purchasing any name brand headphones.

SkullCandy 50/50 earbuds are compatible with the Ipod and Iphone. It's nice being able to control sound right from the cord as well as answer calls a track control with out having to take out your phone. Comes in handy when moving around.

If your in the market for Ipod/Iphone compatible earbuds we do recommend the SkullCandy 50/50 product line.

Koss Sportclip KSC75 Review

Philips SHS3200/37 EarbudsCheaply priced, cheaply constructed, and cheap sound reproduction.

The only good thing about these headphones is that they have a retro design and are cheap.

To put it lightly, these headphones are junk. They are poorly constructed, not to mention ill fitting around the ear, and their sound is heavily distorted.

These headphones may only be $20, but they are definitely not worth the investment. The design is awfully constructed as they fall off of the ears when you move. In addition, sound quality is at a bare minimum.

The Not So Sporty Sportclip KSC75s

These headphones are cheap- they are cheaply priced, cheaply constructed, and have cheap sound reproduction.

For those of us on the move, finding headphones that are travel savvy is a primary consideration when making purchases. That’s why when I saw the Sportclip KSC75’s I was ecstatic to finally find that perfect pair of headphones that would make running at the gym an enjoyable experience. Their name, “Sportclip,” implies that they will work well while participating in sport-like activities— unfortunately, that is a lie.

The Sportclip KSC75’s are cheap. At only $20, I did not expect a melodiously earth shattering experience, only that these phones would merely help me move and groove on the treadmill; however, the Sportclip KSC75’s did more to harm my workout than aid me in physical exercise. The over-the-ear design made to clip “comfortably” over my ear, according to Koss, was complete bull. The piece made to slip over the ear is not only so large it must have been developed with Dumbo in mind, it actually breaks apart when you move. That’s right, this so called comfortable clip, pops off whenever there is the slightest of movements, causing the phone to actually fall to your side and the clip to fall to the ground. In addition to the uncomfortable over the ear design, the inline volume changer, located near the stomach, has no clip. When you run or partake in any activity, the clip bounces and hits you in the stomach and chest—not exactly sporty in my opinion.  So Koss, I have a bone to pick with your new “sport clips.” Just how exactly am I supposed to play a sport, let alone move, when I have an inline volume changer jabbing me in the stomach and headphones that keep breaking apart? Talk about false advertising.

Unfortunately, what these phones lack in comfort and design is not made up for in sound quality. The distortion that these phones create makes everything sound like techno because everything sounds fuzzy. The overall tinny sound is hard to deal with and the strained highs and growly lows made me grimace as I listened to the Beatles be butchered by these cans.

Twenty dollars is a reasonable price for headphones and there are plenty of contenders in that range that are well worth the investment— these phones are just not one of them. Don’t waste your money on Koss’ Sportsh*t, err, Sportclip KSC75s.

Sennheiser HD 800

Truly experience your music through the new flagship model

The flagship model of Sennheiser used to be the HD 650, until the Sennheiser HD 800 came and blew it right out of the water. These headphones will provide you with a listening experience that you would never have even thought possible before.

The Sennheiser HD800 features a design never attempted on a headphone set before, with the largest ear cups ever seen on a pair of headphones. This is due to Sennheiser attempting to place the speakers towards the front of the ear cups, thereby giving a feeling that you are listening to audio through external speakers and not headphones. The headband and ear cups are perfectly padded with microfiber, and the frame is built up of metal and plastic, employing a stylish black and silver color scheme.

Thanks to the minimal 330g weight of the Sennheiser HD 800, it does not feel too tight on your ears and therefore it never gets uncomfortable to wear this headphone set for long periods of time. Thanks to the added comfort provided by the ear pieces, you can take all the time in the world to get lost in the awesome music quality provided by this great headphone set.

The Sennheiser HD800 is most known for its out-of-this-world sound quality. It is unbelievable how a mere headphone set could so effectively render music to make you feel like there is no audio device being used at all; it feels like it’s just you and the music. Thanks to the speakers being placed towards the front of the headphones, the Sennheiser HD 800 gives a feeling of providing audio from the front of the listener, as opposed to conventional headphones which feel like they’re providing audio from the sides.

Thanks to its extremely effective engineering and design, the Sennheiser HD 800 is arguably the best audiophile headphone set out there, if you can afford the stupendous $1399 price tag.

Sony MDR V6

Sony MDR V6

Sweet sounding headphones – great clarity over whole frequency range.

Great rich sound, crisp bass response without distortion or washiness. Super comfortable, padded headband and big enough to cover your whole ear to keep outside sound out.

Somewhat larger than most headphones, they’re moderately bulky for portable audio. Ear padding is comfortable, but can tear or fray with extended use. External wires sometimes get twisted and tangled in the foldable design.

Awesome sound that's great for drowning out the world for only about $100. Good enough to use in studio settings for tracking and mixing. These provide great isolation from outside sounds and beautiful clarity in the audio.

Sony MDR V6

These headphones provide clarity and durability while remaining comfortable and versatile. They’re really good for listening to music, mixing and tracking.

Sony’s MDR-V6’s have been around for a long time. Being generally dependable, they have stood the test of time. They can last for 20+ years with uncompromised audio delivery. The biggest drawback is that the earpads need to be replaced every once in a while as they are susceptible to wear and tear. This is, however, a small price to pay for the way these bad boys sound.

What’s great about them is that they really let you isolate yourself within your music. They cover and comfortably hug your whole ear keeping all the music in and sounds from the surrounding world out. I have missed many a phone call while immersed in these punchy little cans. They provide an awesome escape from daily life.

The bass is pleasantly powerful, giving wonderful warmth to music while maintaining a lovely clarity over the frequency spectrum. 40mm Driver units give these phones a lot of muscle and the sound quality is difficult to match at that price. Boasting a frequency response from 5Hz – 30,000Hz, they uncover all the things you’ve been missing in your records. The spectrum is lucid and precise and it’s great to have real bass as opposed to cheesy low mid boosts.

The MDR-V6s come with earcups that swivel so you can monitor one side at a time which is a great feature for mixing or DJing. They also fold up nicely for storage or travel. I would say these are probably my favorite headphones. They sound great and they last. Durable and dependable, they are definitely worth the hundred bucks.
