The Good

These headphones are exceptionally comfortable on the ear. I could easily wear these for hours. They’re soft, smooth and plush. I also really like the 11 1/2 foot cord because it gives plenty of freedom to roam around the room.

The Bad

I was expecting the digital processor to make a bigger difference when hooked up but that didn’t happen. In fact, when I used the processor, there was very, very little difference at all. I wouldn’t even bother using the processor again; it wasn’t worth hooking up.

While I love the way these headphones feel on the ear, the processor needs to do a better job at sound. There’s just not enough difference to recommend these for the digital aspect. If comfort’s your main concern, then these just might be for you.

Sony MDR DS1000 Digital: Decent Surround Sound at a Decent Price

These Sony headphones are very comfortable to wear but the sound isn’t as good as I hoped for.

I like to be able to move around when I’m listening to music and with this Sony digital surround sound headphone system I was able to do just that. I moved and I grooved and I even did some housework. It was all easy because the cord was over 11 feet long! That gave me plenty of freedom to roam.

I also like the over-the-head design. I know a lot of brands are coming out with over-the-ear and behind-the-head styles, and while those are also enjoyable, sometimes you just want the good ol’ fashioned security that comes from headphones worn over the head. I find they usually fit best, and that was certainly the case with the Sony MDR DS1000. They’re totally adjustable and I can’t imagine anyone not being able to keep them in place.

Whether you have a tiny head or a great big melon head, you’ll love the way these feel. Yes it’s in part due to the overall fit of the headband, but it’s also the soft cushioning that surrounds the ears, which is soft and smooth. You’ll be able to listen to your tunes for days on end. Your ears will never get sore with the Sony digital surround sound headphones.

Now it’s time to talk about the sound these Sony headphones produce. We all know that Sony is one of the biggest names in electronics. However, I was surprised at the lack of power and clarity these produced. I expected to hook up the digital processor and hear a massive difference but that didn’t happen. In fact, there was barely any difference at all. They sounded like any other average pair of headphones - nothing special at all.

The Sony MDR DS1000 surround sound headphones are fine if you just want a decent set of headphones at a decent price. But if you want something that’ll make your toes curl then keep looking.
