The Good

Grado Labs' flagship headphones open a new chapter in headphone listening. Detail galore and strikingly beautiful to listen to. Solid construction.

The Bad

Very Expensive. Quite Heavy (with a headband that really makes you feel the weight). Hard to get your hands on a pair.

A state-of-the-art pair of reference class headphones that require an equaly as good headphone amplifier to bring out their best. Match the right amp to these cans and you might as well cut up the credit card. You won't buy anything else.

Grado GS1000 Headphones: As Bold as the Place They Are Made...

Grado Labs' flagship headphones have been on the drawing board for years and the wait appears to have been worth it.

John Grado is a very busy man. Between phono cartridges and headphones, he produces many very good products. The iPod explosion was good for Grado. People started caring about listening to music through headphones in a big way. Spending $500 on a pair of headphones for portable music listening did not seem like such an idiotic idea anymore, especially as the quality of portable headphone amplifiers improved.

How about $1,000?

Having only listened to the GS 1000 for about thirty minutes so far, we are not in a position to call them the best headphones we have ever heard, but there is much to like.

John Grado has put a lifetime of design experience into these and you can hear it from the very first note.

Quality headphones are still made in America, apparently.
