Shure PTH Control
Push-to-Hear (PTH) device for conversation that is often packaged with the SE 530 earphones.
The Good
The PTH component allows users to hold a conversation without removing the in-ear headphones. The built-in microphone has an adjustable volume and delivers the mic’s feed to the phones.
The Bad
The microphone is very sensitive, so users run the risk of hearing more than what they bargained for, especially in a quiet room. The PTH is battery powered (AAA) and does not shut off when unplugged from audio signals.
The Verdict
This is a unique product, possibly because there’s little demand from the in-earphone community to socialize while listening to music. In the event the user does engage in conversation, it’s just as easy to stop playing the music and listen than engage the PTH.
