Turtle Beach, a headphone industry leader, introduced its latest product: the Ear Force HPA2 gaming headphones. These bad boys were created with the serious PC gamer in mind. They feature true 5.1 surround sound with multiple speaker drivers in each ear cup which are powered by a multi-channel in-line amplifier.
What makes these standout is that unlike most high-quality headphones which feature only a single 40mm driver, the HPA2s feature a 40mm front, a 40mm surround, a 30mm center, and a discrete subwoofer driver in each ear cup. What these high-quality and large diameter drivers do is dramatically improve the positional cues which are extremely important during a gaming session.
So what does this really mean? Most game audio does not contain a pre-encoded subwoofer track making the bass of explosions, gunfire be heard through front, center, or surround speakers, instead of being directed to a subwoofer designed to play the low-frequency portions of these sounds making the sounds less powerful. The folks at Turtle Beach have solved this problem by adding bass enhancement to deliver explosive bass during dramatic episodes in the game.
