Ray Samuels’ new Emmeline Tomahawk, a portable headphone amp, is even smaller than the Emmeline Hornet. It's specially designed to drive sweet intimate sound in ear monitors. Its aluminum chassis is custom built and is one of the smallest out there. An engineer drew the extrusion twice, and the die was also remade until designers were satisfied. There are only five extrusion providers in the United States who have the ability and knowledge to work with such technical extrusions as with that of the Tomahawk. Ray Samuels hired one of these rare individuals to work with the thin skin walls of the Tomakawk's extrusion. Also, its knob was custom designed to match the unique size of the amp.
This portable headphone amp has a 2 position gain switch. The low gain is for IEMs and the high gain is made to drive low impedance headphones.
Two AAA batteries should fuel the guts of this 8-hour listening ship and last for 48 days. Designers felt the battery life was so substantial that they didn't need to include a wall adaptor or the charging capability. Therefore, the Emmeline Tomahawk is not only small, but lightweight, as well. This portable delight costs only $295. Those of you that own Shure E500, UE-10 Pro, Etymotic’s, etc. don’t hold your credit card - hold your breath when listening.
