Home electronics giant, Denon, has announced that it is getting back into the consumer headphone business. Best known for its award-winning surround sound receivers and DVD players, Denon is launching a new line of models ranging in price from $50 to $700, which will include the reference, over-the-ear AH-D5000 ($700) and AH-D2000 ($350). Denon is taking a page out of the Grado and Audio-Technica playbook by utilizing real mahogany for the housing which should have a significant impact on the AH-D5000’s overall sonic signature. The AH-D1000 ($150) should appeal to listeners looking for something that is more transportable, but also of high-end quality. An on-ear model that utilizes Denon’s microfiber diaphragm technology, which should give Grado’s SR60s and Ultrasone’s iCans a real run for the money. The last two models, the AH-C700 ($200) and the entry-level AH-C350 are earbud models designed to fit snugly inside the ear canal and include multiple size tips so that listeners can fit them properly.
All five Denon headphones will be released by the end of February.
